Logo Project Draft

For my logo I created a little rectangular graphic with my initials at the top of the rectangle and then I used the word travel, with the A being a camera that I created myself in illustrator. I had the idea for this logo because I feel like it was the easiest and clearest way to demonstrate what my topic is about. The word travel is pretty self explanatory, people know what that means and how wide the horizons are for people to travel around the world. I knew I wanted to add a camera into the logo to show photography and videography being an important part of my travels and my topic in general. As I was brainstorming I noticed that a camera could somewhat resemble an A so I replaced that with the camera.

I originally was planning on taking a clip art camera off of google to use in my logo but as I looked at all the options on google I realized I could probably make something similar. So I challenged myself, and I think it turned out looking pretty good as I have absolutely no experience with this software. When I started the design process I started making the camera first because I wanted to have the full space to work with and then eventually shrink it down to fit into the logo. I used the rounded rectangular tool and the eclipse tool to make all the shapes of the camera. I then changed their stroke and fill color to either black or white depending on which part of the camera is was for.

A challenge I faced was getting the text to become gradient because every time I would try it would just stay black, I had to go back and watch the varsity lettering tutorial to eventually get it to work. I also struggled with getting the spacing between the text to be even and look good because I felt like it was either too much or not enough space so I had to play around with it quite a bit. illustrator-draft

Logo Sketch

My logo idea is to have my initials in it and then the word “travel” with the A being a camera because my topic is about videography and photography. IMG_1992

Illustrator Tutorial

In my final tutorial of the logo I had a lot of technical difficulties. It would not let me unite all the layers together, instead it would delete the whole project. It would also not let me add the gradient to the text.

Final Graphic Design Project

The final version of my product is here, and it is a magazine cover style of image. The image I used as my actual cover photo is from my senior pictures. I chose this one because you can see the background and my full body so I thought the composition was nice, and it was ideal to use to have space to add the text bubbles and other images on top so it doesn’t cover anything. The other two photos I used were from one of my trips, one is me upside down zip-lining in Maui, and the other is of a sunset on the beach in Oahu. As I have stated before I really want to be a travel photographer and videographer so I chose to do this style of piece because I can showcase my personality a little bit more than in a poster or something like that. I also feel like this grabs the audiences attention because it has little text bubbles to give insight as to what might be talked about “inside the magazine”.

The inspiration behind this post was from one of the student examples, the bright colors and sharpness of the image really intrigued me so I decided to do that style of post. I tried to add my own personality and style to my project as well. To create this piece I referenced the photoshop tutorials, specifically the Bryan Hall one because it taught me how to use the text, layers, and rectangular tools, so I knew it would be good to go look back at that. I used most of those basic techniques taught in that tutorial to create my desired look.

My peers gave me a lot of really good feedback, some of which I applied to the final draft. I changed the colors of the rectangular boxes to make the colors a little more natural and less all in your face. I changed the color of the text so it is cleaner and easier to read, and to tried to make a little magazine issue number in the bottom right corner. I changed the shape of one of the rectangular boxes to a circle because I thought it would add more dynamic and not make everything look the same, this was my own personal choice and I think it makes it look a lot better. graphic-design-final-

Graphic Design Project Draft

For this project I decided to create a magazine cover style of work. This relates to the topic I chose because as an aspiring travel photographer and videographer I hope to one day get a magazine cover or article written about me and my business. This would promote my business and highlight my accomplishments. This was inspired by one of the student examples on our com 210 instructional blog, Ana Bay. I could tell what she was trying to accomplish with the magazine style cover and she did an exceptional job. After seeing that I then looked up examples from Cosmopolitan, and People magazine to see how major companies like them made their covers captivating to the future readers. I tried to mimic their style, while also adding my own flare to my project. The process for the project wasn’t necessarily hard for me personally, rather, tedious. While collecting the photos I was going to use for the project I knew I needed one picture of myself as the actual cover photo, and then two fun photos that I took so I could create a story or “headline” from them. Once I got into photoshop I pulled up the first tutorial with the cork board because I knew I was going to want to add a boarder around the sub photos and I would be using text so I needed a refresher on how to complete these tasks. I then went in and added bright colors and things to hook the audience just like magazines do. The most used tools in photoshop for this project was the text tool, the rectangle tool, and the free transform tool because I kept having to resize things and play around the size to see what looked best, what needed to be bigger or smaller, etc. I had some technical difficulties with the text tool because every time I would type something I would then click enter to try to edit the size and position of the word it would disappear off the photo bu then it would still appear in the layers tab on the right side of the screen so that took me a while to finally get the text to show up and stay there. Even though this is a draft I am proud with the way it turned and I feel like I am slowly getting more and more comfortable with photoshop. graphic-design-draft-

Topic Introduction- Travel photography and videography

The topic I will be doing for my projects is aspiring travel photographer and videographer. For as long as I can remember I have had a travel bug. I love airports and airplanes and the thought of being a new place and exploring. With the growth of social media photography and videography have become more popular, the same with travel bloggers. I would love to travel the world and capture cool moments and share them with the world. During my recent travels I have capture a lot of photos and videos for my own personal use to play around with to kind of dip my toes into the water of this dream of mine. I hope to go out and capture more images and videos throughout the semester to use in my projects. For the first assignment for graphic design I will use one or maybe more images that I took while traveling and then create a cool logo using my name to promote my “business”. The second idea I have is for the last unit when we use adobe premiere to edit videos, I am thinking about making a highlight reel or montage of all the footage I have shot on my vacations traveling and edit them together to showcase my talents and why I should be “hired” to capture moments for future clients.

One blog from my inspiration folder is called “The blonde abroad”

https://theblondeabroad.com

She quit her corporate job to travel the world and has now been to over 70 countries and works with top brands and companies to promote their products. Her blog not only highlight her adventures but also have tips on how to get started into that field which is very helpful for myself.

There is also a Youtube channel called “LostLeBlanc” which the creator quit his 9-5 job to travel the world as well. He now works with brands that send him all over the world to highlight them on his channel, he does this in a very cinematic way using very high end film equipment which is more of where I would to highlight my work (film).
