Reflection Post

May favorite project this semester was the final project where we worked with premeire because I have always been interested in film and editing, I took many classes in high school and was taught many editing techniques so I have always been interested in film and it is something I want to have a future career in. I learned many skills, especially while using different softwares. I think my knowledge of these will help me because I hope to work in the film and social media industry so having a basic understanding of how to use the basic adobe softwares to advance my career possibilities. My future career path is something in the film industry, so knowing how to use adobe premiere will be a great foundation because that is the software most film makers use to produce movies and tv shows. I wish I would have learned more of the special tools and techniques in adobe premiere like making special transitions and titles other than the generic preset ones. When I needed references to help me with parts I didn’t understand I used youtube because they have a wide variety of tutorials that are easy to follow and they can walk you through how to find and use certain tools that might not be as easily identified in the blog tutorials for the class. I thought this class was great, I do not have any suggestions. It was my favorite class of the semester because it was heavy based on personal ideas which I really like. I would recommend this class for anyone and everyone.

Final Video

This project was the most exciting to me because my topic is based on film, videography, and photography. Making a video to showcase my passion is what I love to do. For this I used all video clips I had captured on vacation and various different travels. I was excited to use drone footage I recorded over the summer because that is an area of film that is becoming more popular to use to capture moments and places. To make this I used inspiration from several travel vloggers on youtube who get paid to make edits of their highlights from their trips. I pretty much made a montage to showcase my travels and my talent.

My design process was somewhat easy I complied all video clips from my camera and imported them into premiere. I then found a song that was techno, upbeat, and had a good melody. I think finding a song is one of the most important steps when editing a video because it helps you cut and edit the clips to match the beat of the song which is one of the main techniques I used to edit this video. I received a lot of good feedback for my peers and what both of them said in the comments was that I forgot to add a screen crediting the song of choice and who filmed and edited. So in my revision process I added this in at the end.

I think the most challenging part of the video was making my end title or graphic because it is a glitch title. I taught myself how to do this over the summer but it still doesn’t get easier. I used a basic title screen then created a bunch of different key frames to move the title back and forth to give the effect that it is glitching. I then went in and used the glitch transition/effect in adobe to add the final touches to complete it. I did not have any difficulties with the software. However, it is different to learn a new software because I am used to Final Cut Pro because that is what I used in my classes in high school was adapting to a different software has its challenges.

Final Audio Story

For this project I wanted to talk a little bit about how I got into my topic and why I want to work in the film industry. My absolute dream job would be to get paid to travel all over the world and film my experiences. I follow a bunch of travel bloggers and vloggers on social media so that is how I know it is a possibility for my future career.

For the design process I wanted to share something more personal and why I chose to do the topic and why I am even majoring in film while being a student here at WSU. I listen to some podcasts here and there and I love when they tell personal stories about their experiences getting to where they are now and how they got started in their career. I went for the more narrative themed story. I was even thinking about in the future, maybe 10 years from now, how cool it would be to look back and listen to myself saying this and see how different my life is or see what career path I chose and if I got my “dream job”.

Recording myself talk was a little difficult because I felt like my thoughts were all over the place and I knew what I wanted to say but I did not know how to translate that into words, sentences, and even a story. When I put my audio into audition and was listening back to it I realized how many times I use word fillers like “Um” or “Uh” so I had to go through and cut some of them out because they would be followed by a long pause that sounded un prepared and unprofessional. My revision process was pretty straight forward because I got a lot of the same feedback from my peers so I knew exactly what to change and add. I took the main points I was trying to make in the draft and recorded myself again just touching on those points so it was more clear and I was not rambling on as much. I added the same sound effect I got off of the creative commons website to the beginning and end to have symmetry and to mark the start and end of my story.

I personally like the Audition software much better than any of the other ones we have used so far because it is very straight forward and much easier to learn and move around in compared to photoshop or illustrator.

My audio story- rough draft

For this project I wanted to talk a little bit about how I got into my topic and why I want to work in the industry. I did not how in depth to go so I think right now it is pretty broad and just me talking. I don’t know how to incorporate other people talking and other sound effects into it so I think that is one piece of advise I am looking for during the revision process. I also feel that my story is very long but I am not sure what parts are important to the story and what parts really do not matter and could be removed.

I am planning to tell how my interest in film and travel began and why I want to have a career in that after college.

Final Illustrator logo

For my logo I created a rounded rectangular graphic with my initials at the top of the rectangle and then I used the word travel, with the A being created into camera that I made myself in illustrator. I had the idea for this logo because I feel like it was the easiest and clearest way to demonstrate what my topic is about. The word travel is pretty self explanatory, people know what that means and how wide the horizons are for people to travel around the world. I knew I wanted to add a camera into the logo to demonstrate photography and videography being an important part of my travels and my topic in general. As I was brainstorming I noticed that a camera could somewhat resemble an A so I replaced that with the camera.

I originally was planning on taking a clip art camera off of google to use in my logo but as I looked at all the options on google I realized I could probably make something similar. So I challenged myself, and I think it turned out looking pretty good as I have absolutely no experience with this software. When I started the design process I started making the camera first because I wanted to have the full space to work with and then eventually shrink it down to fit into the logo. I used the rounded rectangular tool and the eclipse tool to make all the shapes of the camera. I then changed their stroke and fill color to either black or white depending on which part of the camera is was for.

A challenge I faced was getting the text to become gradient because every time I would try it would just stay black, I had to go back and watch the varsity lettering tutorial to eventually get it to work. I also struggled with getting the spacing between the text to be even and look good because I felt like it was either too much or not enough space so I had to play around with it quite a bit.

I made a few changes and edits to get the outcome that I am happy with. I changed the font of the text because I think it looks cleaner and is a little easier to read. I also played with the gradient feature more and changed the angle to 90 degrees to make the gradient all go from the bottom up which I think makes the whole logo flow a little better. illustrator-logo-final
